Project Overview

HealthTrack represents a complete redesign of a legacy medical management system used by over 500 healthcare providers. The primary challenge was transforming a cluttered, outdated interface into a modern, intuitive dashboard that allowed doctors and nurses to access critical patient information quickly during time-sensitive situations.

Research & Discovery

Through extensive user research including shadowing medical professionals during their shifts, we identified key pain points: excessive clicking to access patient histories, poor data visualization, and lack of mobile responsiveness for doctors making rounds. We conducted 25 in-depth interviews with doctors, nurses, and administrative staff to understand their daily workflows and frustrations with the existing system.

Design Solution

The redesign prioritized a clean, scannable interface with a robust search functionality and customizable widgets allowing each user to personalize their dashboard based on their specialty and workflow. We implemented color-coded patient status indicators, streamlined the appointment scheduling process from 8 steps to 3, and created an innovative medication tracking system with automatic conflict warnings. The information architecture was restructured to match medical professionals' mental models, grouping related functions logically.

Visual Design & Prototyping

We developed a calm, professional color palette using blues and whites to reduce eye strain during long shifts, with strategic use of red for critical alerts. Typography was carefully selected for readability at various screen sizes, and we created a comprehensive design system with reusable components to ensure consistency. Interactive prototypes were built in Figma and tested with 50 healthcare professionals across three hospitals.

Results & Impact

User testing showed a 65% reduction in time spent navigating the system and a 40% increase in user satisfaction scores. The new interface has been praised for its clarity, speed, and intuitive design that required minimal training. Post-launch metrics revealed a 50% decrease in user errors and a 35% improvement in task completion rates. HealthTrack demonstrates how thoughtful UX design can directly impact healthcare delivery, allowing medical professionals to spend less time with software and more time with patients.
